( or Jeres) Race of beings who take human form when interacting with humans, who live in, and take care of the Fereledria, the borderland mountains. The Geres can, and do, manipulate space and time when they see the need. They are mostly wary of, and indifferent to, humans in general, but will befriend individual humans, usually ones who intend no harm--or who are being pursued by Norsunder, whose mages the Geres will practice upon, leading them in circles, snowing them in until they are forced to leave. Once in a while they will wrench time into a dimple and shove an especially hated mage into another time, but the indigenous life forms don't favor this, and indeed, over a long period, a bad guy taken from here and reappearing there doesn't do anyone any good overall.
