Sved

Sved is the general name given to the seal that a Stringer applies to a contract or an identity paper or a transaction. The magic on sveds is guarded by the Guilds of Weights, Measures, and Transactions, or "Stringers."

The strongers operate through nearly all of the world, though less in the north, for example, the Venn. But these polities have a similar system. If it becomes too corrupt, trade goes elsewhere; the Stringers are drawn from people who like accounting, counting, precision. A Stringer takes a vow that, should the Stringer vary even a fingernail's breadth from the true, they shall be executed at guild pleasure. It's never a nice death. Therefore Stringers are known to be apolitical and precise--when on duty.

Only Stringers can issue sveds, or oversee the issue. Each sved is recorded in the vast records held by the Scribes.
