"Rule of Engagement" is a short story in the anthology Lace and Blade, published in the spring of 2008. The story is taken from a much longer novel, Antiphony, with the subplots removed, and the world blurred. But all the important romantic dash is still there--like the discussion of the proper etiquette for abduction!

It was originally going to be called "Are you free?" or "The Modern Abduction".
