the concept of speed versus knowing always how long a journey should take and planning for that: why cars, for example, would never be invented here.

Roads, road maintenance, carriages and coaches,

lead to ships and the concept of travel just for pleasure--rare when kingdoms very isolated, except for eccentric individuals.
