There are various forms of communications and location magics, which take a lot of effort to make. Summons stones can take several forms, from the simple (one says a specific magical word and the person in possession of the other stone feels a magical alert, usually in the form of a painless spark or tingle) to the more complicated, like conveying a couple of sparks as set signals. Summons stones can be loaded with magic, enabling conversations--usually these are rings. The problem with this latter type is that the more complicated the magic, the easier it is for mages to trace the signature and interfere.
