An oddly shaped land bisected by forested hills and a few mountains, otherwise plains and farmland. it was once the heart of Hier Alveraen's farmland, but later, when that empire was broken up, it was regarded as a buffer state. The south end below the river is mostly dense forest, in the middle of which is a maulan tree city. There are also centaur enclaves, mostly on the southwest, in the forestland near the lake.

Off the coast is the isle group known as Esmalay, with Wistran as capital and main port. Its primary export is yeath hair.
